Classes

Workshops

GOOD TO GREAT
Weekend Intensive: January 17, 18, & 19; 10:30am-4:30pm:$225. Acrylics (you can use oils if you'd prefer). The focus of this class is learning to to see color, light, and composition in a fresh way and applying this knowledge when critiquing your own work. Angela will show you how to see color critically, and how to effectively create values of each color whether working from life or a photograph. We’ll also dive in to the complexities of composition and how to use it to create a unique perspective and avoid common pitfalls. The last class will end with a critique of the work created in the workshop. The class is being offered through Cole Gallery and you can register at http://coleartstudio.com/good-to-great-weekend-workshop-with-angela-bandurka

Artist's Tip

Most of us buy a pre-primed canvas, and proceed to paint on it directly. This is fine, and won't be a problem most of the time - but adding texture to your canvas, or at the least re-priming your surface will make your painting look more complex and interesting. Try one of these suggestions:

  • Apply a thin, smooth layer of light molding paste with a large cake knife or palette knife; wait 24 hours for it to dry then prime it. Allow to dry completely before painting. (This is what I do to each canvas!)

  • Collage a piece of tissue paper, or decorative paper to the surface. Depending on how thin or thick the paper is, it may seal in with a bumpy texture (tissue paper) or a smooth surface (thick paper)

  • Use one of the fun acrylic mediums available! See what they can do on my blog post for ARTspot: https://artspot.squarespace.com/blog/2013/03/golden-mediums-are-bomb-baby.html

2014 is ramping up to be an exciting year! I have two books scheduled for release that will feature my work! Look for them at amazon.com and Barnes & Noble:
